Futsal tournament in the town hall

Back by popular demand, after last year’s huge success, is a Futsal tournament in Hornsey Town Hall's main theatre.

Anglo-Chilean football coach Ben Corbyn organises London’s only Futsal Copa America as part of our line-up at La Clave Fest, taking place on June 17. Futsal is an exciting, fast-paced, small-sided football game that is widely played across Latin America. The origin of Futsal, or five-a-side soccer as its known in the United States, can be traced to Montevideo, Uruguay. In 1930, Juan Carlos Ceriani came up with the game for competitions at local YMCAs. It's usually played on basketball-sized courts without the use of sidewalls. From these humble origins, it became very popular, especially in Brazil.

Pele, Zico, Ronaldinho, Kaka, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Deco, Xavi, Fabregas all played Futsal to develop their skills. Ben will help introduce Futsal in seven primary schools, together with PE teachers, in the weeks before the event. Each school will put forward a team, representing the different Latin American countries. The winning team will get its trophy on the main stage in the afternoon. There will be a break between the group stage and the finals, giving Ben the opportunity to run a Futsal workshop where all children are welcome.

If you would like your school to participate in the tournament, email amaranta@latinolife.co.uk
